In Chipping Campden the Visitor Information Centre not only offers valuable Visitor Information, it provides employment for 3 local people, serves as a High Street retail outlet which actively supports local Arts and Crafts and operates much valued community services for residents.In addition to the front desk and booking services, the rental it pays provides an important contribution to the ongoing operation of the Old Police Station – in itself an important community asset.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SaveCotswoldVICs">Please Sign the Petition Here</a>Its website, part of CampdenOnline, provides a critical digital presence successfully promoting Chipping Campden and the surrounding area and is one of the highest visited Tourist information sites in the Cotswolds. But the Centre is now at imminent risk of closure due to the withdrawal of funding by Cotswold District Council.In April 2021 a report to the Cotswold District Council Cabinet stated:“The Council has long recognised the value of Tourism as one of our most valuable service sectors and the vital role it plays in the Cotswold economy.”Despite this, in July 2023, CDC Cabinet decided, without any consultation or discernible impact analysis, to cease all grant funding to the remaining 4 Visitor Information Centres in the District with effect from the end of September 2023 – giving less than 3 months’ notice.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SaveCotswoldVICs">Please Sign the Petition Here</a>Without this funding 3 of the 4 centres, in Chipping Campden, Stow and Bourton on the Water, are at imminent risk of closure – a fact well known to CDC when they took this decision.In 2019 Tourism in the Cotswolds directly generated £360m of visitor spending, principally in the Hospitality and Retail segments, and employed 7,300 people – equivalent to 17% of the total employment in the district. But the economic impact of visitor spending is much wider: the additional revenues substantially supplement the non-visitor High Street income and as a result, are key to the survival of the High Streets – the social and commercial centres - of our Towns and Villages.The effect of this is very much greater in rural areas where employment opportunities are significantly more limited and the importance of the High St. to the overall community is much higher.Apart from ceasing to fund the remaining Visitor Information Centres, there is no published strategy for supporting Tourism in the Cotswold District.<h3>What you can do:</h3>If you would like to support your VIC, our local visitor economy and our High Streets and urge CDC to rethink its ill-considered decision to cease funding the remaining VICs, please sign the Save Our VICs petition by using the link below.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SaveCotswoldVICs">Please Sign the Petition Here</a>The petition is open to anyone concerned with protecting the economic viability and vitality of our Cotswold Towns and Villages.

I received an email with this in it on the weekend:__________'Campden Connect' , a part of Campden Business Forum CIC, is an opportunity for local businesses to get together informally to share experiences and discuss the challenges they have overcome or are facing. Businesses and sole traders from Campden and the surrounding areas are welcome. We are delighted to have involvement from very small recent start ups, as well as longer established, larger businesses. We also open our doors to local residents who are interested to learn more about the rich diversity of enterprises that thrive in the Chipping Campden region, or those who just want to attend a Campden Connect venue that looks particularly interesting. We'd love to meet you and explore ways in which we can support each other and our local businesses.__________It just seems like more gibberish from the business forum. What the heck do they do for the town? It just, to me, seems like get-togethers and a vanity project with very little action. Lets learn about whats in the town … ok … but anyone can do that, what about how they’re going to tackle real business issues, grow tourism in the area, help with bills, sales, marketing … nothing of that at all. Just a vanity project.Sorry if I offend anyone, I just don’t see the point of them. Sorry.I won’t be renewing my subscription to their website as it’s brought in nothing.
