Projects designed to promote Gloucestershire as a 'Great Rail Experience' have received £30,000 each from Great Western Railway and long-distance operator CrossCountry. Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership (GCRP) is spearheading work to develop a series of bookable "Taste for Travel" trails and place-based experiences radiating from Gloucestershire's railway stations. The trails build on existing <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://gfirstlep.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c923dcd8397c35d432ff25f44&amp;id=4d58ccdd53&amp;e=49d522c203">Taste for Travel</a> maps and will be designed to link rail travel to local experiences, food and accommodation through a bookable platform that builds and maps bespoke integrated experiences. The aim is to encourage visitors to see rail as part of the adventure, leave the station to explore nearby attractions, stay longer and experience local businesses. Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership will be working with Visit Gloucestershire, destination marketing organisations, community organisations and the private sector to map, test and promote the trails. Taking a place-based approach this initiative aims to harness local benefits and encourage visitors to discover the county using sustainable modes of transport. Building on the trails GCRP will develop tools to support future rail2leisure initiatives through a working blueprint. The blueprint will identify the opportunity and benefit to joint working between destination management organisations, community rail partnerships, and rail operators. Great British Railways: Williams-Shapps plan for rail identifies Community Rail Partnerships as playing a critical role in developing effective rail2leisure initiatives. Partnership working in this context supports delivery on net zero targets, compliments the sustainability agenda and economic recovery of the visitor economy and the rail industry.As part of their franchise agreements with the Department for Transport, train operators are committed to funding projects proposed by their Community Rail Partnerships.
