Looks like we won’t be getting a railway station at Chipping Campden, this just in from a request to our local MPJust to let you know that we have received a response from Mark Hopwood CBE Managing Director of GWR, which I include below: Dear Sir Geoffrey, Thank you for your email regarding a railway station at Chipping Campden station, and please accept my apologies for the unacceptable delay in replying. We are supportive of opening schemes across our network, and of course as recently as February 2020 we saw Worcestershire Parkway open on the North Cotswolds Line. We are not aware of any proposals – for example, as part of the Government’s Restoring your Railway programme, or as part of the North Cotswolds Line Taskforce – for reopening a station at Chipping Campden. When considering the re-opening or development of any new station consideration must be given to the pathing of trains, route capacity and the impacts on the wider timetable, particularly on a line such as the North Cotswolds which has significant sections of single track. In addition, a robust business case is needed to confirm that sufficient demand exists to justify both the capital cost of provision, and the ongoing operating costs of providing rail services to the new location. It, of course, is also worth saying that the North Cotswold Line Taskforce’s proposals must be considered as part of assessing any new station, as it may impact on infrastructure proposed and required to make the Taskforce’s proposals a reality.
